Debian Wheezy up to date with default gnome3 desktop seems unable to start without the patch attached which disables the system tray menu.
patch to disable the system tray and allow wheezy client to start
Please confirm the bug is present on a fresh install.
(this may also affect other platforms, like Ubuntu, etc - and may affect us eventually on platforms we really care about)
I didn't think of trying it (doh), but --no-tray
should do the same thing and is much easier to test!
Debian ticket: bug 759202
gnome-shell fail ticket: #476
This may have been fixed by r7457, at least now I am unable to get wheezy to get stuck, either with trunk or with v0.14.4
It would be very useful to know which change fixed things (assuming that it was an xpra change and not a system library update)
Lowering priority.
I am pretty sure that this was fixed by r7458 and not by r7457.
Odd that it only seemed to affect Debian, but good that it is fixed.
afarr: probably still worth double checking (and having a Debian system to test is provably useful for finding bugs like this one), but a lower priority now. Close when confirmed.
(both changes were included in some form in 0.14.4)
Wait, no. That is nonsense. Those changes are server side. How could that possibly cause a client to hang?
Still looks fixed but I have no idea why!
I can't seem to reproduce this using a fresh install of debian wheezy with gnome and xpra 0.14.4 from the winswitch repo.
Is there a specific program that is triggering this maybe?
Please try 0.13.x and 0.14.0, the reporter said in the Debian ticket that this has been broken for a while.
I believe this is the same bug as #681, which has more details and a fix.
Closing as duplicate.
Fixed in r7653.
